Heather D. Hurd, Ph.D.
Dr. Heather Hurd is a licensed psychologist with a background in school and counseling psychology. Dr. Hurd has worked hard to effectively improve the lives of children and families for the past decade. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (a top ranked and APA-Approved program) in Educational Psychology with a minor in Counseling. She completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Wisconsin Waisman Center at the Developmental Disabilities Clinic with the Interdisciplinary Team and at Memorial High School. Dr. Hurd completed her postdoctoral residency at Silver Psychology Center, a clinical psychology practice in Fort Myers, Florida. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in public policy (educational, mental health) at the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Hurd maintains memberships in the following professional organizations: Wisconsin School Psychology Association, National Association of School Psychologists. Dr. Hurd serves on a committee for NASP (Assistance to States) working on the improvement of operations and structure of state organizations.
Dr. Hurd’s clinical experience includes serving children of all ages (0-18) and young adults (18-25), as well as their families. She has worked in a variety of settings including: private psychology practice, hospital (interdisciplinary clinic), school (elementary and high school), and university settings. Dr. Hurd’s clinical approach is a blend of theoretical views including: ecological, cognitive-behavioral, and socio-cultural. This means that she takes into account the child’s biological and neurological factors, environmental factors and settings surrounding the child, and other factors including social and cultural. She practices based on evidence-based research in her
assessments, diagnostics, therapies, and interventions. She uses outcomes-based measures and progress monitoring on a regular basis. Dr. Hurd believes that while life presents with certain hurdles and challenges, with the appropriate supports all children and adolescents can grow, learn, and succeed!
